Brio Leisure is to run 17 leisure facilities in Chester and Cheshire and is the first leisure-based community interest company in the UK.
Visitors to the opening day enjoyed performances by zumba dances in fancy dress and family swim sessions and endurance cyclists raced through marathon spinning classes as part of the fun.
Cheshire West and Chester Council chief executive Steve Robinson and Sport Cheshire chief executive Jackie Bryson attended the launch at the Northgate Arena.
The venues were previously operated by different local authority divisions or through charitable trusts.
Brio has been set up as a community interest company and will employ about 600 casual, full- and part-time staff across the area which include leisure centres golf courses and entertainment venues.
